- Letter (4pp ms, in German) written by Benno Zell from Vienna in November 1938 to his sister in Palestine, referring to their efforts to obtain emigration for their mother in Austria and to his own hopes of making his way to Palestine on an "illegal transport"; translation of the letter and an account of Benno Zell's experiences in Germany and Austria before the war and then in Britain as a refugee, where he joined a Zionist agricultural training camp at Millisle in Northern Ireland before serving in the British Army Pioneer Corps and returning to continental Europe as part of a Light Aid Detachment, emigrating to Palestine on forged papers after the war (4pp ts); airgraph letter written to Benno in December 1943 by his brother serving in the 2 Jewish Battalion, Palestine Regiment MEF; two photographs of Benno and family members; photocopy of an official postwar document confirming that Benno's mother had been deported to the Lodz (Litzmannstadt) Ghetto and was not recorded as having returned.
