Scope and content:: Extensive collection of documents concerning Clive Teddern (born Kurt Tebrich), a German-Jewish refugee whose family lived in Hamburg in the 1930s and who came to Britain on the 'Kindertransport' shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, living with family acquaintances in Edinburgh before his internment in 1940, initially at Lingfield and then in camps in Canada, returning to England to relations in Oxford and enlisting in the Pioneer Corps in 1942, subsequently serving in the Royal Armoured Corps and in the 8th Battalion King's Royal Irish Hussars, with whom he took part in the 1944 Normandy campaign, ending his service in uniform after the war as an interpreter with the Control Commission Legal Division at CCG and war crimes courts in Luebeck and Hamburg, before returning to civilian life in England - the collection comprises a large quantity of personal correspondence (in English and German) from family and acquaintances, covering the period of his internment, Pioneer Corps service and military service in the UK, North West Europe and postwar Germany, various papers relating to his army and CCG service, notebooks and diaries, part of his unpublished memoirs, and other miscellaneous documents.
