Scope and content:: Substantial collection of papers concerning the German-Jewish refugee Walter Munz (Munzesheimer) who came to England in the mid-1930s, comprising: 1) official documents, mainly from the 1920s, relating to his schooling in Karlsruhe and his university medical studies in Munich, Heidelberg and Berlin, emigration to England circa 1935 with his wife Lotte, establishment in dental practice in Birmingham, and later naturalisation; 2) official and personal papers concerning his father-in-law Ludwig Kander, a doctor in Karlsruhe whose professional life was ruined by the Nazi regime and who committed suicide whilst on a visit to his daughter and son-in-law in England in 1938 (the collection includes letters he wrote to his granddaughters in England, a picture-book he drew for them, and documents concerning his suicide); 3) documents concerning a family acquaintance and fellow-refugee Leslie Wallen (Ludwig Weikersheimer), notably his wartime military service in the Intelligence Corps and with 3 Troop, 10 (Inter-Allied) Commando, including photographs taken by him in the bombed-out Krupp Works in Essen at the end of the war and legal documents concerning his attempts to gain compensation for family property lost during the Nazi period.
