- Documents concerning Arthur Lindner, a German-Jewish refugee to Britain in the late 1930s, and other family members, comprising: Certificate of Release issued to Arthur from Esterwegen concentration camp (1935), 2 postcards written by him to his father Julius Lindner from Dachau concentration camp (December 1938), 3 Certificates of Good Conduct ('Fuehrungszeugnis') issued to Arthur by various German police authorities (1939), 2 letters from the 'Hilfsverein der Juden in Deutschland' (Jewish Assistance Organisation in Germany) to Arthur, concerning his inclusion in a refugee transport from Cologne to the Kitchener Camp in Richborough, England, and regarding the issue of a passport to him (included in the collection), together with instructions for his travel, character reference for him from the Kitchener Camp authorities (1940), letter written by him to acquaintances in Switzerland from Huyton Camp, Liverpool, and various papers concerning his subsequent internment in Hay Camp, Australia, including sketches and drawings, poems, and a notebook containing examples of canteen tokens, theatre tickets and other ephemera collected in Hay Camp; also various documents concerning refugee Else Levy (later Else Lindner), including several Red Cross message forms used by her to communicate with her parents who remained in Germany (1940 - 1942), 2 Police Good Conduct certificates issued to her (1939) and her passport; 3 items of Red Cross correspondence from and regarding Arthur's father Julius, who died in Theresienstadt / Terezin in 1942 [Note: Arthur Lindner and Else Levy came to Britain from Munich and Aachen respectively, met via a mutual friend, and subsequently married; Arthur's brother Richard Lindner became a well-regarded 'pop art' painter after the war, most other members of Arthur and Else's families perished in the Nazi camps].
