- Collection of letters, photographs and other documents relating to Georges (Georgy) Halpern, a Jewish boy living in Vichy France during the Second World War who was sheltered with other children by the clandestine OSE organisation (Oeuvre de Secours aux Enfants) in a series of 'safe houses', including the Maison d'Izieu near Lyon, before being picked up by the Gestapo in April 1944 and eventually murdered in Auschwitz: 11 letters (17pp ms) written by Georges in French to his parents, Julius and Serafine, November 1942 - ? March 1944, while he was being sheltered at Campestre and Izieu, with a copy of a further letter from him; 3 crayon drawings and copies of 3 further drawings by Georges; 2 letters in French to his father dated April and May 1943 by an OSE official, informing him of Georges' movements including his transfer to Izieu; letter in French, dated April 1946, to his father concerning the dedication of a plaque and memorial at Izieu to commemorate the fate of the children; two newspaper advertisements from 1982, placed by his parents requesting information about their son; photocopies of further documents, including the telex sent by Lyon Gestapo chief Klaus Barbie to his superiors in Paris informing them of the arrest of the children and their guardians at Izieu, and the pages from the entry register at Drancy transit camp, Paris, recording the names of those arriving from Izieu; 36 photographs of Georges, his parents, children at Izieu, the Maison d'Izieu after the war, and the memorials there.
