Scope and content:: Diary (in two notebooks and on several loose pages, mostly in German) written between May 1937 – April 1942 by Ingeburg Marion Sigler, a young German-Jewish girl living in Chemnitz, eastern Germany, at the time the diary was begun, and who emigrated to England in August 1939 on the `Kindertransport', the early entries (written in `Sütterlin' script) providing insights into her daily family and school life in Chemnitz alongside juvenile preoccupations, continuing after her arrival in England with an account of her journey from Chemnitz to ? a reception camp in Kent and her subsequent stay with relatives in Southgate, London, during the early months of the Second World War, with increasingly frequent references to air raids amongst descriptions of school, cinema visits, meetings with girlfriends, romance etc, and her evacuation in late 1940 with fellow shool pupils to Dulverton in Somerset; with associated documents including an official copy of her birth certificate (issued August 1939 for emigration purposes), her British `Certificate of naturalization granted to a minor' (November 1947), photostat copy of her German civilian identity card (Kennkarte), 1938, and a few other documents.
