Scope and content:: Dual autobiography (circa 130pp ts, unpublished, in German, edited by a third party) of Sophie Friedlaender and Hilde Jarecki, outlining their childhood in German-Jewish families during the early 1900s, their first encounter in Berlin in the 1930s when they both worked at the 'Landschul und Kinderheim Caputh', a private educational establishment for Jewish children in Potsdam, their subsequent separate work in various other Jewish schools in the Berlin area, emigration to England at the end of 1938, where Sophie worked for the `Movement for the Care of Children from Germany' (Kindertransport) in camps at Selsey, Dovercourt and Claydon before being fortuitously reunited with Hilde in London, their wartime work together as teachers and wardens with refugee children at Morcott Hall school and in refugee hostels in Birmingham and Reading (staying at the latter hostel from 1943 to 1955), and their postwar educational work, Sophie at a girls' grammar school and Hilde with the 'Inner London Education Playgroups'; together with associated material, mainly concerning Sophie Friedlaender, including her own school reports, testimonials and correspondence from employers in Germany and England, naturalisation, financial restitution, writings by refugee children at Barham House camp (Claydon), and an album of photographs mostly concerning the Caputh school and hostel.
