- File containing copies of various documents (in German, with an English summary) concerning the wartime experiences of Reinhard Frank, consisting mainly of a written record of a conversation between Frank and others during which he told his 'life story', including his background as member of a German-Jewish family from Hamburg who owned a knitware company (compulsorily purchased and 'Aryanised' in 1938), his father's death whilst Reinhard was still an infant, his mother's decision to stay in Germany after the Nazis came to power in 1933, her subsequent efforts to emigrate to Switzerland with her children in 1939, including a marriage of convenience to a Swiss national in order to facilitate the process, her failure to gain admittance for her children, who stayed in Berlin with foster-parents and survived by finding employment in Berlin's last remaining Jewish hospital until 1943 when they were arrested and sent to Theresienstadt, Reinhard then surviving Auschwitz while his sister perished in Bergen-Belsen at the end of the war, concluding with his repatriation to Germany as a DP and his search for his mother who died in Switzerland in late 1945 without having seen her children again; appended are copies of various documents bearing on this story.
