- In the 1920s Alfred Rubens started collecting prints and drawings of Jewish life. The collection he amassed contains nearly 2000 items and includes aquatints, lithographs, etchings, drawings, woodcuts, prints and a small number of photographs. The collection includes depictions and caricatures from the complete spectrum of life including pedlars and businessmen and a large number of portraits of named individuals including religious leaders and famous names from the theatre, art, literature, philosophy, music, sport and politics.The collection does also include some synagogue interior and exterior views.He was one of the founders of the Jewish Museum in 1932 and served as Chairman of the Jewish Museum 1958-1983.
