- This group of letters, although small, contains three of particular interest as Terry Frost writes about his work and what he was trying to achieve, and also a split within the St. Ives Society. Accompanied by a Christmas card from Denis Mitchell.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Terry Frost started painting when in a Prisoner of War camp in Germany in 1943. After the war he attended evening classes at Birmingham Art College in 1945 before moving to Cornwall in 1946 and continuing his studies at Leonard Fuller's St Ives School of Painting. He went to London and studied at Camberwell School of Art (1947 - 49) and unofficially under Victor Pasmore and William Coldstream (1949 - 50). He taught at Bath Academy, Corsham in 1952, became a Gregory Fellow at Leeds University 1956-57, and taught at Leeds College of Art 1956 -57. He spent his summers in St Ives and returned to live there in 1959. He met Yankel Feather, a painter, in 1947 and they corresponded irregularly between London, Leeds, St Ives and Liverpool. Yankel Feather moved from Liverpool to Cornwall in 1977.
