The collection of ‘Administrative Records 1786-1790’ comprises the records of the new administrative authorities established as a result of the administrative reforms of Joseph II. The collection is part of the extensive collection of ‘Documents of the administrative reforms by Joseph II in the Jászkun District1786-1790 ‘. The collection contains records listing the petitions received by the authorities, the method of their settlement, and the related indexes.
One of the reforms in the centralisation efforts by Joseph II was the reorganisation of public administration. The operation of regional administration was replaced by an office consisting of state officials under the management of the Council of Governor-General. After the death of the ruler, the pre-1786 administrative system was restored.
The collection includes index books referring to the period of 1786-1790. The volumes of the collection show a duality: one part of the volumes focuses on longer descriptions of petitions submitted to the administrative authorities, whereas the other details the method of settling them. The responsibilities of the administration are reflected in the content of the volumes: patience tax, ecclesiastical measures, the practice of religion, issues of tenants, regulations of legal relationships related to rents or duties, supervision of endowment issues, armed forces and their supply (uniform, transport, accommodation, delivery).
There are about 98 Jewish-related records in the index-books. The first entry is from 30 November 1786 (No 142) and deals with Joseph Singer, a cheater. The majority of the sources are related to the collection of the tolerance tax (i.e. treasury tax from this time) (29 01 1787 No 188, 1788 1. 2784.). However, diverse subject matters are characteristic in the source material: they include complaints against religious and other officials, economic transactions, out-of-court proceedings of private individuals against private individuals, nitric acid cooking, military transport and delivery, public safety, market trade, use of weights, trading, taxation, educational matters, religious, commercial, out-of-court court cases and health regulations. The source material of individuals mostly survived in the case of the Jewish population in the county, e.g. Jacob Melkler’s debt (1788 1. 2709.). The descriptions usually consist of only a few sentences. The records were written in German.

-
Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county was founded in 1876 with its seat in Szolnok. The county includes the Jászkun District, and Külső-Szolnok part of Heves and Külső-Szolnok counties. The establishment of the county archives was ordered by Queen Maria Theresa. The legal predecessor of the archive was established in 1751 at the headquarters of the Jászkun District in Jászberény. The county records were collected here. The well-organised collection was transferred to the Szolnok county archives in 1878. The document collection was moved to the building of the Szolnok Financial Administration under the name Szolnok County Public Archives in 1950. Later the county court building was designated as the maintenance site for the archival materials in 1917. The construction of a new building was decided in 1952 and it was completed by 1980. The building - explicitly for the maintenance of archival materials - is located at 40-42 Pozsonyi Street.
The collection contains very few documents from the period before Mohács. However, it became extensive from the 18th century. (As a result of territorial reclassification in the Heves county archives, documents related to Szolnok county can also be found.) The composition of the documents maintained in Szolnok county is closely related to the changes in the administrative boundaries from period to period. Deaccessioning in 1914 and 1928 and ‘paper collection’ in 1946 and 1947 caused irreparable deficiencies in the case files.
