- Archival history:
- On the initiative of the state authorities, the materials stored in the municipal archives in Lwówek Śląski were transferred in the second half of the In the nineteenth century in the form of a deposit to the State Archives in Wrocław and placed in collection Rep. 132a. They were transported out of Wrocław during World War II. After the war, they were taken over by the archival services of East Germany (later the German Democratic Republic). They were returned to Wrocław in 1980.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Łwówek Śląski was one of the first Silesian towns established under the Magdeburg Law (1217). It was an important center of gold and silver mining and later a center of cloth and linen production. During the Thirty Years' War, it suffered major damage. There was reconstruction and redevelopment, particularly intensive development of the town in the 18th century. Beginning in 1885, there was a railway connection with Gryfów and a slow industrialization. Significant damage and population exchanges occurred during World War II. Regarding Jews in the town in the Middle Ages, “de judaeis non tolerandis" was imposed from the 15th century. There was re-settlement in the 19th century, but the local community remained small - in 1890 it was 31; a synagogue was probably organized in rented rooms, and there was a cemetery.
