Most of the Jewish clients of notary public Sebastian Korytowski were from Krakow. Most of the Jewish-related records are legalised signatures, notes, receipts, inventories, company contracts, real estate sale and purchase contracts, and commission contracts. Some concern influential Jewish families, e.g. the Grunbaums, Rappoports, and Meisels (including the business activities of Dow Ber Meisels, the rabbi of Krakow and later of Warsaw). Some entries concern the involvement of Jewish entrepreneurs in mining zinc ore. - Archival history:
- The records of the notary public Sebastian Korytowski were initially stored in his notary office in Krakow, and then in the interwar period in the archives of the notary chamber. These records were taken over by the State Archives in Krakow after World War II.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Sebastian Korytowski ran a notary office in Krakow in the years 1834-1867 on Grodzka, then Mikołajska and finally on Sławkowska Street. His activity was based on the French notary act of 1803 together with the decree on the notary deed of 1809, according to which notaries had the status of public officials (record secretaries). They were in force in Krakow until 1859. Formally, a new law on notarial law was introduced in Galicia in 1855. The notary was involved in the preparation of notarial documents, wills, officially certified facts, declarations, statements, legalised (authenticated) company and private signatures, notaries issued extracts and copies of documents (e.g. from mortgages), took money and securities into deposit and prepared the so-called protests of promissory notes.
