The Imperial-Royal Industrial Inspector in Krakow is an important collection for researching the role of Jews in the economy of Galicia at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Jewish materials can be found in most units. Most of the materials concern post-inspection documents (reports, opinions) produced by industrial inspectors as a result of inspections carried out in Jewish factories and enterprises (in Krakow, Tarnów, Podgórze, Brzesko, Bochnia). Most of the Jewish-related material comes from the period 1901-1913. It also includes complaints about Jewish entrepreneurs and descriptions of factories, and materials describing working conditions.

- The Krakow records of the Imperial Royal Industrial Inspector in Krakow after the First World War were taken over by the Archives of Historical Records of the City of Krakow. Inspector's reports sent to the Governorship in Lviv are in the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Lviv.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Imperial-Royal Industrial Inspector office in Krakow was created in 1883 in Galicia by the Act on the establishment of industrial inspectors, which established labour inspection. In 1899, an Inspectorate in Krakow was established for the city of Krakow and the following counties: Biała, Bochnia, Brzesko, Chrzanów, Dąbrowa, Gorlice, Grybów, Jasło, Kraków, Krościenko, Limanowa, Myślenice, Nowy Sącz, Nowy Targ, Podgórze, Ropczyce, and Tarnobrzeg, Tarnów, Wadowice and Wieliczka, Kolbuszowa, Krosno, Łańcut, Nisko, Pilzno, Strzyżów, Mielec, Rzeszów. The last eight were excluded from Krakow and incorporated in 1911 into a newly established Inspectorate in Przemyśl. The basic duties of the Industrial Inspector included supervision of occupational health and safety and compliance with working time in factories. The industrial inspector had the status of a civil servant. The official had the right to enter workplaces at any time of the day or night, and the right to interview employees and management regarding the circumstances of accidents. In the event that violations were ascertained, the inspector informed the local relevant authorities to remove risks to the health and safety of workers. The inspector submitted reports and issued an opinion on his inspection activities. In 1920, industrial inspectors were requalified as labour inspectors.
