The notary office of Karol Rudolphi was one of the most active and popular notarial firms in Krakow at the end of the 19th century. In addition to Christians, it also offered its services to Jews, mainly small merchants, shopkeepers and craftsmen. The majority of the records deal with everyday matters, i.e. loans, concessions, mortgages, debentures, family law matters (e.g. wedding announcements signed by the local rabbi), documents regarding Jewish brotherhoods and associations in Krakow (e.g. Talmud Torah). Some cases concern influential Jewish families, e.g. Meisels, Kahane, Liebeskind, and Liban. This collection is useful for studying Jewish and Christian social and economic relations in Krakow in the last decade of the 19th century.

- Archival history:
- The records of the notary public Karol Rudolphi were initially stored in his notary office at ul. Poselska 17 in Krakow, and then in the interwar period in the archives of the notary chamber. These records were taken over by the State Archives in Krakow after World War II.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Karol Rudolphi (1836-1902) first ran his notary office in Krzeszowice, then he moved to Krakow at Poselska Street 17, where he ran an office from 1887-1902. His notarial work was based on the Austrian notary act of 25 July 1871. According to this legislation, he was required to prepare various documents in the form of notary deeds, including writing family law contracts, i.e. pre-nuptial contracts, in particular the granting of lifelong stipends, receipt of dowry, recognition of debt between spouses and contracts concluded between spouses such as loans, purchases and exchanges. The exclusive competence of notaries was the right to grant private documents the power of a public document, i.e. accepting and revoking last will testaments, certifying a document, certifying that a given person is still alive, certifying resolutions of general meetings of associations and companies, protest declarations on promissory notes and commercial documents. The form of a notarial deed was required for activities undertaken by blind and deaf people as well as those who were illiterate. In addition, notaries were authorised to make changes in entries in mortgage books, to accept money and securities into deposit and to draw up wills. Notaries formed a notary collegiate body with an executive organ, i.e. the notary chamber which was headed by a president elected for 3 years.
