The records of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry constitute an extensive and unique collection indispensable for research on the entrepreneurship and political activities of the Jewish elite of Krakow in the second half of the 19th century, the interwar period, as well as during World War II. It is also useful for genealogical and prosopographic research. In 1938, in the Kraków Province, out of 34,6000 entrepreneurs, 17,600 were Jews. The Chamber's records include the entrepreneurial records kept by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which consist of company surveys, a list of enterprises (the so-called industrial cadastre) as well as catalogue cards from the cadastre and company files. The collection covers Biała, Bochnia, Brzesko, Chrzanów, Dąbrowa, Gorlice, Grybów, Jasło, Kolbuszowa, Kraków, Limanowa, Łańcut, Mielec, Myślenice, Nisko, Nowy Sącz, Nowy Targ, Pilzno, Podgórze, Ropczyce, Rzeszów, Strzyżów, Tarnobrzeg, Tarnów, Wadowice, Wieliczka and Żywiec. In the years 1919-1939 the geographical scope also included Krosno, Przeworsk, Cieszyn, Silesia, and Spisz and Orawa. Due increasing industrialisation, most of the documents relevant for Jewish history are from the 1920s and 1930s. Of particular value are the cadastral cards regarding the activities of rich and influential families of Jewish industrialists from Krakow, Podgórze, and Wieliczka, i.e., Liban, Epstein, Ehrenpreis, Dattner, Hochstimm, Baruch, Mendelsburg. Cadastral files are sorted alphabetically for each of the individual counties in the province. They contain the names of the company's owners (e.g. partners of a limited liability company), company headquarters (sometimes the exact address), information on ownership transformations (death of a partner, withdrawal or joining the company), information about the start and end of operations, about liquidation proceedings, etc. Cadastral files from the 1920s and 1930s often additionally provide information on the share capital and financial shares of individual partners. Records from the years of the German occupation of 1939-1942 were produced by the City Council and city governor (Stadthauptmann) of the city of Krakow and contain information about the takeover of individual Jewish enterprises by German and Polish owners or information about the establishment of non-Jewish board imposed by the Germans [zarząd komisaryczny]. The cadastral files from 1941-1942 contain sparse permits issued by the city elderman [starosta - Stadthauptmann der Stadt Krakau] for Jews to run businesses in the Jewish residential area (Krakow ghetto). The cadastre was divided into four registers: 1) General partnerships and sole proprietorships, 2) Limited liability companies, 3) Joint-stock companies, 4) Cooperatives and associations.

- Archival history:
- The pre-war records of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Krakow were taken over after World War II by the State Archives in Krakow. Due to the wide range of economic activities, some of the Chamber's records could have been transferred to other archives (e.g. the State Archives in Rzeszów, Götz-Okocimski Archives in the National Archives in Krakow). The records of the Imperial-Royal Ministry of Industry and Trade (reference numbers HG2-HG5) and the Imperial-Royal Ministries of Iron Railways containing correspondence with the Krakow Chamber of Commerce and Industry are now stored at the Central Archives of Historical Records (AGAD) in Warsaw.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Krakow was economic self-government organisation that operated in the years 1850-1941 and then again from 1992. Its goal was to bring together industrialists, traders, bankers, and craftsmen, and to support the local economy. It also had interests in the area of transport, finance, and social affairs (social security, controlling the working time of workers, organisation of vocational education), which it influenced by way of submitting legislative proposals. It covered the Krakow province.
