The fonds covers the area of Łobzów, Liszki, Krowodrza and Gramatyka. Łobzów is presently an area in Krakow, within District V – Krowodrza, through which the Młynówka-Królewska river once ran. From the 14th century, Łobzów was a royal village, featuring a palace and garden complex erected by King Casimir III the Great (Kazimierz Wielki) allegedly for his Jewish mistress Estera. The collection includes a considerable amount of Jewish-related material from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The following series contain Jewish-related material:
2. Meetings of, and elections for, the Communal Council; decrees of the Starosty, County Council, and Governorship 1867-1910 (ref. no. GmP V/4-13)
3. Communal assets, tax fasjas [returns/declarations], rents and leaseholds 1867-1910 (ref. no. GmP V/14-19)
4. Inhabitants, military affairs, construction of houses and roads, regulation of rivers, school, parish church, sanitary supervision, permits for parties, penal register 1867-1910 (ref. no. GmP V/20-28)
5. Incoming correspondence logs 1892-1907 (ref. no. GmP V/30-34)
6. Register of land allotments 1848, 1903 (ref. no. GmP V/35-36)
7. Varia (ref. no. GmP V/29)
Most of the Jewish-related materials are found in the incoming correspondence log’s records, which specified the subject of the case considered by the communal authorities, suggested ways of settling the matter by the commune, the authority and parties by which the letters are to be received, and the subject of the complaint, dispute or problem. The other important sources are letters of the ‘imperial and royal’ (kaiserlich und königlich; k.u.k.) Starosty in Krakow, the Magistrat (municipality office) of Krakow, k.u.k. Krakow Board of the Police, municipality offices of other towns in Austrian Galicia.

- Archival history:
- The records of Łobzów were kept at the village’s chancellery until 1826. With the establishment of the Mortgage Registry Office, they were moved to the Court of Appeals; temporarily stored at the repository of records of the Senate of the Free City of Krakow, they were paginated there (in 1826 and 1830). In 1890, the records were transferred to the City of Krakow’s Archive of Historical Records. Three fascicles were received by the Krakow Archive in 1910.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The royal village of Łobzów was leased during the reign of Stanislaus II Augustus from the royal governor of Krakow by Ludwik de Straube, officer of the court brigade. Since 1787, Łobzów was property of the Main School of the Crown; recognised as a suburb of Krakow in 1792, after the Partitions, in 1796, it became part of one of the city’s quarters. In the Duchy of Warsaw period (1809-15) Łobzów was a municipality [gmina miejska]; under the Free City of Krakow, 1815–38, it became one of the minor municipalities (Łobzów-Zwierzyniec). Included in 1838 in the city’s Circuit [cyrkuł] II. 1855 saw the establishment of a district starosty, the municipality of Łobzów being incorporated in the district [obwód] of Liszki. A communal council and ‘superiority’ were set up in 1866, with Łobzów subordinated to the county self-government – specifically, the County Department in Krakow (part of the State Division of the Imperial and Royal Starosty). Two years later, the precinct of the County Office in Liszki was made part of the Starosty of Krakow. Since 1910, Łobzów has officially been part of Krakow.
