This fonds covers Półwsie Zwierzynieckie, Dębniki, Zakrzówek and Czarna Wieś. Półwsie Zwierzynieckie is presently an area in Krakow, within District VII – Zwierzyniec. Until 1909, it was a village located between the Rudawa River and what is presently Krasińskiego Ave.; the area of the municipal park (a large meadow) of Błonia. Jewish-related material can be found in records from the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly in the following series: 2. Resolutions of the Communal Council – election for the Council, 1867-1910 (ref. no. GmP I/3-5, 48); 5. Censuses, 1888–1910 (ref. no. GmP I/21-24); 6. Records, in numerical and alphabetical order 1879-1910 (ref. no. GmP I/25-47); 7. Incoming correspondence log 1889-1904 (ref. no. GmP I/49-51).
Most of the Jewish-related records are contained in the incoming correspondence log records, which specified the subject of the case considered by the communal authorities, suggested ways of settling the matter by the commune, the authority and parties by which the letters are to be received, and the subject of the complaint, dispute or problem. - Archival history:
- The registers of Półwsie Zwierzynieckie were kept at the village’s chancellery up to the year 1826. With the establishment of the Mortgage Registry, the records were moved to the Courts of Appeals and, temporarily, stored at the records repository of the Senate of the Free City of Krakow, where their pages were numbered (in 1826 and 1830). In 1890, the records were transferred to the Archive of Historical Records of the City of Krakow. The records produced at a later date, 34 in total, were received by the Krakow Archive in 1912. A portion of construction-related records included in the records of the Town of Podgórze, were taken over in as late as 1953.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Initially, Półwsie Zwierzynieckie belonged to the Norbertine Nuns residing at Zwierzyniec. In the eighteenth century, three jurydykas [private tracts of land] were formed in the area’s eastern part – namely, Kolegiackie, Węgrzeckie and Wygoda. The area was made part of Krakow’s suburbs in 1792. Resulting from the reforms carried out by the Austrian partition, it was made part of a quarter; in the Duchy of Warsaw period, 1809–15, it was a municipality [gmina miejska]; in 1838, the area was included in Circuit [cyrkuł] IV. In 1855, Półwsie Zwierzynieckie was added to the district [obwód] in Liszki. From 1866, Półwsie was subordinated to the County Department in Krakow and the k.u.k. Starosty in Krakow. Since 1866, Półwsie was part of the County Office of Liszki, which reported to the Starosty of Krakow. Finally, in 1910, Półwsie was merged with the City of Krakow.
