- Three manuscript volumes written in cursive Hebrew, with some Yiddish in volume 3, from the British internment camps in Cyprus for Jewish illegal immigrants to Palestine. The first volume contains copies of letters sent out on behalf of the internees, letters produced by the Religious Union; entry 105 is a list of burials without tombstones. The other two volumes contain copies of birth certificates and copies of marriages, some with papers inserted verifying to the legitimacy of the ceremonies and many entries bearing a red stamp on behalf of the Committee of the Rabbis.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Internment camps were run by the British in Cyprus between 1946 and 1949 to house Jewish immigrants who had attempted to immigrate illegally to Palestine. The two major camps were in Caraolos, north of Famagusta, and in Dekhelai, outside Larnaca. It is estimated that over 50,000 inmates were held in these camps over this period.
