- This collection comprises: Minute books of committees, 1972-86, including the executive committee, 1975-85, council, 1972-87, annual general meetings, 1976-86, and standing committee of professionals of the Central Council for Jewish Community Services, 1975-82. Files (alphabetical sequence), c. 1975-99, including papers relating to the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women (AJEX), annual accounts, committees, conferences, honorary officers' meetings,Jewish Care, the Jewish Deaf Association, Kisharon, long-term care, the National Association of Jewish Homes, the President of the Council and the Women's Campaign for Soviet Jewry. Papers relating to Jewish communal leadership training course, c. 1988-97. Publications produced by the Council, 1975-99; annual reports, 1975-98; ‘Central line’, 1987-99; and information leaflets.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Central Council for Jewish Community Services was established in 1972 to co-ordinate the work of Jewish communal organisations. It grew to encompass sixty member agencies throughout Great Britain. Amongst the services it provided were Atid leadership courses; the Social Services Ombudsman; and the Arbitration and Mediation Service. It co-ordinated the Jewish Emergency Support Service (JESS) and the National Network of Jewish Housing Associations. The Council closed in 1999.
