- This collection comprises: General correspondence, 1893-1952, including correspondence with the Chief Rabbi's Office; correspondence relating to Jews' College, London, 1900-38, including admissions papers, 1920s and 1930s. Research notes, together with notes for lectures and speeches; manuscript of an incomplete book on marriage by Buechler. Other papers including a report of the London Jewish Hospital Ladies Aid Association, 1930-1, a report of the Union of Jewish Women, 1931, and minutes of the Jewish Unity Group, 1942; newspapers articles and photographs, including a series of photographs of a dairy shop and milk transportation in Prague, 1946.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Adolf Buechler (1867-1939) was born in Priekopa, Hungary. He studied at Budapest, Breslau and Leipzig, obtaining a doctorate for a study in Hebrew accents. Buechler moved to England and worked for some time under his uncle, Adolf Neubauer, of the Bodleian Library. He then moved to the newly formed rabbinical seminary at Vienna before returning to England, to Jews' College, London, in 1906.
