- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Bridge in Britain Programme was launched by Greville, Lord Janner, Colonel Robert Henriques and Mr Alf Diamond at the end of 1959. A non-denominational, educational charity it aimed “to foster understanding between Britain and Israel, Jew and non-Jew, through practical educational and mainly social service exchange schemes”. The programme allowed applicants aged 18-30 years, such as school leavers, graduates, young trainees and professionals, to spend a period in Israel each year. At its height, in the mid-sixties, there were reciprocal visits to the UK by Israeli youngsters. By the late sixties the Bridge had virtually ceased.
