- Scope and content:
- In this collection we firstly note the periodicals published by organisations from the Jewish communities or other associations relevant to this guide. We generally find separate issues or incomplete series of periodicals. For Belgium, we note issues of i.a. Contact. Le Mensuel juif de Belgique, Fax de Jérusalem et du monde Juif, Jewishpost, Musée Juif de Belgique, MuséOn, Regards, Avenir, Entre Points Critiques, Hatikvah, Bulletin de la Fédération des Étudiants Juifs de Belgique, Points Critiques, La Lettre des Résistants et Déportés Juifs, Epoc, Bulletin de l'Union des Progressistes juifs de Belgique, Conti-News, Joods Actueel, Di Yiddishe Presse, JASK, Belgisch Israëlitisch Weekblad, De Centrale, Shofar, Hommage des Juifs de Belgique à leurs Héros et Sauveurs 1940-1945, Nouvelles de l'Institut d'Études du Judaisme, Berichten van het Instituut voor de Studie van het Jodendom, Instituut voor Joodse Studies – Nieuwsbrief, etc. In addition we find periodicals from i.a. France (La Presse Nouvelle, Évidences, Archives Juives, Historia Judaica, etc.), the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Poland, Israel, and others. We also note antisemitic and negationist periodicals including Het Anti-Joodsch Front, Welt-Dienst, Le Rempart, l’Ami du Peuple, Volksche Aanval, Volksverwering, publications by Vrij Historisch Onderzoek, etc. The sub-collection Collectie vlugschriften en officiële documenten consists of various leaflets and individual documents by Belgian organisations and institutions, Allied services, the German occupier, collaboration movements, etc. mainly dating from the time of the Occupation. We note materials related to i.a. pre-war antisemitism and (resistance against) the persecution of the Jews during the Second World War. The collection of Oorlogskranten (war press) contains censored as well as clandestine newspapers and periodicals, published during the First and Second World War. For the years 1940-1944 we note clandestine press published by Jewish resistance groups such as the Comité de Défense des Juifs – see i.a. Le Flambeau, Unzer Wort and Unzer Kampf (these last two were written in Yiddish). The other newspapers and periodicals from this collection often contain comments and/or protests against the persecution of the Jewish population, the deportations, etc.
