- This fonds mainly contains documentation used by Gie van den Berghe for the work on his book “Getuigen, de Belgische bibliografie van ooggetuigenverslagen over nazi-kampen en –gevangenissen”. We note press cuttings, articles, periodicals, catalogues, etc. In addition, we also note a number of ‘ego documents’ and sometimes correspondence with van den Berghe. In particular, the documents and documentation related to Jewish resistance fighters, former prisoners and survivors, including known figures such as Regine Beer, Leopold Flam, Yvonne Jospa, Maurice Kubowitzki, Felix Nussbaum, Jacques Ochs and others. We also point out publications about the Second World War, the camps, Jewish resistance, etc. written by Gert Lilienthal, Ephraïm Schmidt, Sylvain Brachfeld, Lucien Steinberg and others, or published by organisations such as the Jewish Museum of Belgium, Yad Vashem, the Service Social Juif, the Centre Communautaire LaÎc Juif, the Auschwitz-stichting, etc.

- Administrative/biographical history:
- Gie van den Berghe (born 1945) began his studies at Ghent University. In 1986, he obtained a PhD in Ethics (Moraalwetenschappen) with a dissertation on survivors of the Nazi concentration camps (published as Met de dood voor ogen, 1987). He was a researcher for the CEGESOMA for more than eight years. Since 2003 van den Berghe is a guest lecturer at the University of Ghent. He has published a large number of academic and popular scientific articles and books on i.a. the concentration camps and killing centres, testimonies about the camps, religion, Jews and Judaism, Zionism and the State of Israel, genocide, etc. including the book Getuigen.
