- This fonds contains identity papers of Léon Arje Starzynski, bookkeeping documents concerning his business Imperstar Confections (active in wholesale and retail clothing, and established at rue Marie-Christine 81 in Laeken) as well as correspondence (dated 1959-1963). (See box 122)
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Léon Arje Starzynski, born in Zduńska Wola (Poland) in 1906 and migrated to Belgium in 1924. He worked as a diamond trader in Antwerp before the Second World War. During the war he was interned in France. After returning to Belgium, he opened a textile business in Brussels and acquired Belgian nationality in 1954. Starzynski was an enthusiast of Yiddish and was notably a member of the executive committee of the Comité pour la Langue et la Culture Yiddish (a committee that was officially recognised by the Moniteur belge on 14 September 1978). He was one of the Belgian correspondents for Unzere Sztime and wrote many articles for La Centrale. (Fonds L. Star (BE / MJB / Fonds L. Star))
