- Administrative/biographical history:
- Jean-Charles Snoy et d’Oppuers (1907-1991) was attached to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (i.a. as secretary-general) from 1934 onwards. During the Occupation he initially continued working as a functionary, but was soon replaced by the more complacent Victor Leemans. Snoy et d’Oppuers secretly maintained contacts with a number of dignitaries and leaders of industry. In the 1950s he held various senior positions as a functionary, notably in the framework of the implementation of the Marshall plan, within the Benelux administration and in the context of early European economic integration. As a Catholic politician he was a councillor and alderman in Ophain-Bois-Seigneur-Isaac (1933-1977), and in national politics he held the function of i.a. Minister of Finance (1968-1972). In the private sector Snoy et d’Oppuers was active in banking for the Lambert group. He received the title of count in 1983, as well as the Robert Schuman prize for his merits in the framework of European integration. (B. De Meyer & J. Verhoogen, Inventaris van het archief J.-Ch.
