- This fonds contains personal records of Jossel Orlovitch-Volk, including a safe-conduct in lieu of a foreign passport issued by the Lithuanian legation (1921), his handwritten will, but also documents related to his death in Auschwitz, correspondence, plans of façades, documents concerning his industrial activities and bookkeeping notebooks. - Administrative/biographical history:
- Jossel Orlovitch-Volk was born in Vilkomir (Ukmergé in Lithuania, according to other sources) in 1871 as the son of Sarah Patz and Jacob Orlovitch-Volk. He was a Lithuanian merchant and became shareholder of the Société Anonyme et Chaudronnerie La Moderne. He married Esther Peretz with whom he had a son, Alexandre Orlovitch-Volk, who would become a doctor in medicine. Jossel Orlovitch-Volk was murdered in Auschwitz on 18 January 1943.
