- Olga Stern and Salomon (Sally) Nussbaum (1872-1951) originally came from Fulda in Germany. They owned a business that produced paints, lacquers and varnishes, and had three children: Manfred (1903-1991), Grete and Joseph. Manfred came to Belgium in 1933 and established a firm producing lacquered kitchen furniture. His parents joined him in 1939. During the Second World War, Manfred Nussbaum was deported to southern France and interned in the camp of Saint-Cyprien. He joined his brother and sister in Malawi in 1943. After the war Nussbaum returned to Belgium and founded the firm Cologina, specialists in industrial adhesives. He was a generous donor to various Jewish charities. The Fondation Manfred Nussbaum was created after his decease in 1991; its mission was to assist families in financial hardship in the non-formal education of their children. (A. Cherton, "Le fonds Nussbaum: Les pérégrinations d’une famille allemande (XIXe-XXe siècle)", in MuséOn, no. 3, December 2011, pp. 66-75.)
