- Scope and content:
- This fonds contains various types of bookkeeping documents, correspondence, invoices, photos, novels, books in Hebrew and personal documents. These archives are of interest for the study of commerce in the Alsace region, notably the import of cotton, dyes and other products. In addition, the fonds also contains personal records of Meyer’s daughter Andrée, such as her school notebooks (1900-1917).
- Archival history:
- The fonds was transferred to the General State Archives in 1924, by Elie Burthoul, the councilman for the sequester.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Ernest Meyer (?-1907) had gone into a partnership with Meyer Bernheim; they bought scrap iron and waste. The business was created in 1892. Ernest Meyer had established himself in the Alsace region (France), at rue de Colmar 33 in Mulhouse. He married Jeanne Rueff with whom he had one daughter, Andrée Meyer, who lived in Antwerp, courte rue d’Argile in 1912. Ernest Meyer himself died in 1907. (J. Cuvelier, S.10.
