- Administrative/biographical history:
- Abram-Icchok (alias Abraham) Lipski was born in Lodz in 1911. He came to Belgium to pursue his university studies. He was a brilliant student and obtained a degree in civil engineering from the university of Ghent in 1935. He combined a career as assistant with his own engineering office. He settled in Brussels in 1948, where his business, specialising in stability issues, flourished. He invented several methods related to the use of concrete, the commercialisation of which brought him international renown. A. Lipski held the function of deputy commissioner within the Commissariat Général of the Brussels World’s Fair from 1956 to 1958. His office was involved in the realisation of many large-scale projects in Belgium and abroad, notably in Israel, a country to which Lipski devoted a lot of his energy. He was active in the Amis belges de l’Université hébraïque de Jérusalem (which he helped create), he was the president of the fundraising campaign of the Centrale d’Œuvres sociales juives of Brussels in 1968 and was also involved in the Ganenou school. Abraham Lipski died in Brussels in 1982. (E. Wulliger & J.-P. Schreiber, "Lipski, Abram-Icchok dit Abraham", in J.-P. Schreiber, Dictionnaire biographique des Juifs de Belgique.
