- This fonds is of great interest for research related to the 20th convoy, the Livschitz affair, the relations between the resistance, the Front de l’Indépendance and the Comité de Défense des Juifs, the Fédération nationale des anciens combattants et résistants armés juifs de Belgique, etc. We also note material related to the Groupe G and the Jewish resistance, to the AJB, documents concerning the controversy between Roger Katz and Maurice Heiber (1969) and the polemic between Katz and Maxime Steinberg. The fonds contains important documents concerning the construction of a monument to the Jewish heroes of the resistance at the Mémorial des Martyrs Juifs in Anderlecht, the question of the tombstones of executed Jews at the Tir Nationale (inscribed with crosses) and the Belgian display at the exhibition of the Comité mondial du tombeau du Martyr juif inconnu held in Paris in 1964. For these topics we find notes, correspondence, testimonies etc.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was deposited by E. Guzy, granddaughter of Roger Katz, in 2006.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- David Katz (1906-1985) was active in the resistance during the Occupation, in the Mouvement national belge (MNB) – i.a. in distributing clandestine newspapers and hiding French réfractaires. After the war he was involved in associations of former resistance members: Katz was the president of the Fédération nationale des anciens combattants et résistants armés juifs de Belgique (FNACRAJB) established in 1953, president of the fraternelle du MNB, treasurer of the Union internationale de la Résistance et de la Déportation and one of the leaders of the Voix internationale de la Résistance. He also was the president of the Fédération sioniste (1955-1965) and member of the board of the Chamber of Commerce Belgium-Luxembourg-Israel. (J.-P. Schreiber, “Katz, David dit Roger”, in J.-P. Schreiber, Dictionnaire biographique des Juifs de Belgique. Figures du judaïsme belge, XIXe-XXe siècles, Brussel, De Boeck, 2002, pp. 192.)
