- Joseph (‘Jef’) Judels (1871-1942) was the director of the Nederlandsch Lyrisch Toneel and the (Koninklijke) Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp between 1902 and 1909. In 1923 he became the artistic director of the Koninklijke Vlaamse Opera. Judels, a baritone, performed in countless productions, as did his wife Maria Elisabeth (‘Betzy’) Kamphuysen, who was a soprano. (J.-P. Schreiber, “Judels, Joseph dit Jef”, in J.-P.
