- Administrative/biographical history:
- Azarius “Azario” Dobruszkes (1912-2002) was born in Vilnius in 1912. He obtained a civil engineering degree at Caen University in 1934. Called back for his military service in Poland that same year, he was in charge of various military worksites. He married in Luniniec (Poland) in 1939. Azario Dobruszkes and his wife survived the war in Bachkiria, bordering Siberia. After the war, Azario joined his brother, who had been living in Belgium since 1928. He entered the study bureau of Abraham Lipski. From 1953 to 1983, Dobruszkes worked as an engineer for the firm Preflex; he was appointed technical director in 1961 and deputy general director in 1979. Alongside this brilliant career in engineering, Azario Dobruszkes was heavily involved in Yiddish cultural life in Brussels. He notably was a zamler for YIVO. (A. Dobruszkes, "Note biographique".
