- We find many relevant files in the archives of former mayor Lode Craeybeckx. They are rather diverse and mostly contain various (police) reports, press clippings, hand written notes, lists, correspondence, minutes of meetings, etc. We note among others a file concerning the performance of the play Der Stellvertreter by Rolf Hochhuth (1966; MA-KAB # 1286), a file on the Coördinatie Comité der Diamantnijverheid including the swearing in of Romi Goldmuntz (1953; MA-KAB # 1348), a file on diamonds stolen by the German occupier (1947-1952; MA-KAB # 1345), etc. The fonds also contains many speeches by Craeybeckx i.a. on the occasion of “100 years Jewish community” (1976; MA-KAB # 1015), “Homage to the Jewish schools Jesode-Hatora and Beth Jacob” (1962; MA-KAB # 985), “50 years Jewish charity” (1970; MA-KAB # 1002), the reception of Romi Goldmuntz (1951; MA-KAB # 973), the conference of the World Conference of General Zionists (1960; MA-KAB # 982); the homage to Marcel Marinower (1962; MA-KAB # 985), the 75th birthday of Romi Goldmuntz (1957; MA-KAB # 978), the passing away of Romi Goldmuntz (1960; MA-KAB # 982), and others. Lastly we mention the many New Year’s messages and other pieces published by the Belgisch-Israëlitisch Weekblad and the Nieuw Israëlitisch Weekblad, for the years 1952-1973. - Administrative/biographical history:
- Lode Craeybeckx (1897-1976) was a socialist politician. He was a doctor of law and was the mayor of Antwerp between 1947 and 1976. He was also a member of parliament, representing the Antwerp district (1932-1968). In 1946 Craeybeckx was, for a few days, Minister of Colonies. (Y.-W. Delzenne & J.
