- Administrative/biographical history:
- John Bartier (1915-1980) was born in England in 1915. He obtained a history degree at the ULB in 1934 and a PhD in philosophy and letters in 1950. He taught at the ULB where we would be appointed professor extraordinaire in 1953. The research of Bartier (initiated in the Masonic lodge Prométhée in 1951) concerned laïcité, free inquiry and Freemasonry. He also published on the dukes of Burgundy, liberalism and socialism in the 20th century and the history of the ULB. Bartier died in Brussels in 1980.( Y.-W. Delzenne & J.
