- Administrative/biographical history:
- Pax Christi is a Catholic NGO, founded in 1945. Today the organisation has more than 100 affiliated local organisations spread across more than 50 countries. Pax Christi is mainly involved in the peace movement and is committed to disarmament, respect for human rights, reconciliation, etc. In the international arena it also acts as an advisory organisation, notably thanks to its consultative status with the United Nations. A Belgian branch became active in 1953 in Brussels and Wallonia. Pax Christi Flanders was officially created in 1972. Since their inception, the Belgian sections have been particularly active in the Belgian and European peace movement, but they also deployed other initiatives concerning intercultural and interfaith dialogue, various youth issues, etc. (http://www.paxchristi.be/over-pax-christi/historiek/; http://www.paxchristi.net/international/eng/about.php)
