- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Vredescentrum (‘peace centre’) was created in 1987 as a ‘museum for peace’. It was funded by the city of Antwerp, and initially located in the District House of Deurne and later the Open House of Education of the city. The centre mainly ran educational projects but struggled to reach the general public. In 2005 the institution was reformed; since then the city and province of Antwerp jointly manage and fund the Vredescentrum. The non-profit association relocated to the buildings of the Infopunt Europa. Both organisations develop their own initiatives (lectures, exhibitions, debates, etc.) and support activities of other organisations related to the broad theme of ‘peace’.
