- The fonds was deposited in 2003.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- YWCA-Antwerp was created in 1919, as the first Belgian branch of the Young Women’s Christian Association (founded in 1855). The goal of the YWCA was the “complete physical, moral and intellectual development” of women. To this end, training activities, holiday camps but also homes, restaurants and other services were established. From 1926, the Fédération des Foyers Belges de l’YWCA acted as the umbrella organisation for the sections in Antwerp, Brussels, Mons and Verviers, which also included a Bureau d’Aide aux Émigrantes d’Anvers (‘assistance office for female emigrants in Antwerp’). In 1980 the organisation changed its name to YWCA of Belgium, and split into a Dutch-speaking and French-speaking section. ((unpublished) inventory of the YWCA archives (BE / AVG-CARHIF / YWCA 84).)
