- Administrative/biographical history:
- Nathan Rosenthal was born in Bürgel, near Jena in Germany, in 1859. He migrated to Belgium in 1880 where he became active as a stockbroker around 1885. On 15 October 1911 he founded the society Rosenthal & Cie with stockbroker Joseph May. The society was a limited company with a capital of 50,000 Belgian francs, established for a period of ten years. The headquarters of the company was located in Brussels: in the rue du Marais until 1911, and afterwards at chaussée de Louvain 11. The company dealt with various banking, foreign exchange and stock market transactions, excluding pure speculation. Rosenthal & Cie ceased its activities in 1919 and was liquidated by the sequester in 1923. Nathan Rosenthal did not leave Belgium. After the sequestration of his company, he applied to obtain Belgian nationality. (C. Bulte & S.
