- Scope and content:
- This fonds supposedly contains the type of material generally found in archives of associations – in particular documents concerning the drafting of the various publications of VHO and correspondence related to legal action taken against VHO members.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was acquired by the ADVN in 2003.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Vrij Historisch Onderzoek (VHO)(‘free historical research’) was founded in 1985 by Siegfried Verbeke. The organisation claims to conduct scientific research on the Shoah and serves as one of the largest publishers of so-called “revisionist” literature. In reality, the Holocaust is minimised or denied in the pseudoscientific publications of VHO. In Belgium, the managers of VHO were convicted for violations of the negationism law and anti-racism legislation, and received harsh sentences in 2004 and 2008. Siegfried Verbeke was prosecuted and convicted for similar offences in the Netherlands and Germany. (See http://www.diversiteit.be/, the website of the Interfederal Centre for Equal Opportunities.)
