- This fonds consists of the original documents that were microfilmed by the intelligence service Tégal and sent to London. We note a wide variety of documents such as reports with intelligence gathered by agents, stolen or copied documents, circulars, witness reports, brochures, sketches, etc. The following files concern the persecution of Jews: no. 104, 127, 128, 148, 182 and 302.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The intelligence service Tégal was created in 1940 in southern France, around the central figures Pierre Haumann, Hervé Doyen and Paul Collard. Tégal, recognised in 1941 by the Belgian State Security in London, initially remained closely connected to the ‘Benoit’ network (founded by Doyen). In September 1940 Haumann returned to Belgium; by the spring of 1941 Tégal was active throughout Belgium. The background of the Tégal agents was exceptionally heterogeneous; we notably point out its agents in Eupen, conscripted into the Wehrmacht. Waves of arrests in 1942 and late 1943 dealt a serious blow to Tégal, but the network remained in operation. From 1944 there was closer cooperation with other resistance groups, such as the Geheim Leger – Armée Sécrète and the ‘Mill’ service, resulting notably in a redistribution of the areas of activity between Tégal and Mill. In early 1944, Tégal deployed its activities in the provinces of Limburg, Liège, Namur, Hainaut and Luxembourg – including the gathering of information on enemy troop movements, weapons and reinforcements; surveillance of airports, military transports and factories; reports on bombings, etc. (E.
