- Administrative/biographical history:
- Mizrachi is a religious Zionist organisation, created in Vilnius in 1902. It gave rise to a labour movement called Hapoel Ha-Mizrachi in Mandatory Palestine and to the Mizrachi political party. Its objective was to preserve the religious character of the State of Israel. It was an independent party until 1956, when it merged to form the National Religious Party Mafdal. (I. Goldshlag & L. Bernstein, “Mizrachi”, in M. Berenbaum & F. Skolnik (eds.), Encyclopaedia Judaica, 2nd edition, Detroit, Gale, 2007, vol. 14, pp. 389-392.)
