This series, covering the years 1915-1970, is arranged according to the registration numbers in the rolls and registers of inscription and deregistration (files nos. 310-344).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Centraal Observatiegesticht (‘Central observation institution’) in Mol was created in 1913. The facility notably consisted of a family colony for ‘abnormals’ (from 1914) and a section for the mentally disabled (from 1920). Together with the autonomous farm in Mol, they formed the ‘Bijzonder Gesticht met schoolhoeve voor abnormalen’ (closed in 1963). In the period after the Second World War, the Central Observation Institution was composed of a reception department, five observation departments and a school farm (which was later integrated in the Rijksopvoedingsgesticht). After the Youth Protection Law (1965) was passed, the institution was charged with the accommodation of minors from Antwerp, Limburg and Flemish Brabant. The Centraal Observatiegesticht and the Rijksopvoedingsgesticht were merged in 1990 to become the Gemeenschapsinstelling voor Bijzondere Jeugdbijstand ‘De Kempen’, composed of the sections ‘Mol Hutten’ (the former Centraal Observatiegesticht) and ‘Mol Markt’ (the former Rijksopvoedingsgesticht).
