File no. 462 concerns (the giving of advice on) the curriculum of Chassidei Bobov in Antwerp (1995-1997). File no. 461 is related to requests for permission, by Jewish schools, to deviate from the developmental targets (ontwikkelingsdoelen) and standards (eindtermen)(1997-1998). Lastly, we note files concerning (the giving of advice in) requests for permission to deviate from the regulations concerning vacations – see no. 193 GVBS Tachkemoni (1998), no. 194 GVBS Benoth Jeruzalem (1998), no. 195 GVBS Bais Rachel (1998), no. 196 GVBS Chassidei Wiznitz (1998) and no. 203 GVBS Bais Chinuch (1998). The files mentioned above all relate to schools in Antwerp. Lastly, we also point out the series of inspection reports (doorlichtingsverslagen).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The royal decree of 15 May 1928 forms the legal basis for the Inspectie Basisonderwijs (‘primary education inspection’). For a long time, two inspectorates existed side by side: one for national (public) education, the other for the subsidised (private) school network. The inspectors were authorised to assist the national schools, notably in the composition of curricula or in pedagogical matters. In both school networks, they monitored compliance with the legal dispositions and regulations regarding curricula, class schedules, subjects taught, level of education, etc., in other words, whether or not an institution fulfilled its social mission, and whether or not schools made responsible use of the allocated funds. In 1988, nearly all competences regarding education became the responsibility of the Communities. Since then, education in Flanders forms part of the Beleidsdomein Onderwijs en Vorming. The subsidised Jewish primary schools in Flanders are notably inspected by this service.
