- This fonds contains files related to businesses/business owners active in the diamond industry, and employing workers. The files contain documents relating to membership of the fund (toetredingsaktes) (including name and address of the company), questionnaires on the activity of the business, letters related to the removal from the fund and documents concerning the number of working days (including names and address of employees, remuneration and type of work). We also note correspondence of the institution itself, mainly with the Syndicaat der Belgische Diamantnijverheid, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Dienst van de Postcheck. Lastly, the files sometimes contain documents related to disputes (e.g. about the type and extent of contributions). (This fonds is indirectly related to the Jewish population.)
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Bijzondere Verrekenkas voor Gezinsvergoedingen ten bate van de Arbeiders der Diamantnijverheid - Caisse spéciale de compensation pour allocations familiales en faveur des travailleurs de l’industrie diamantaire (‘Special compensation fund for family benefits for workers of the diamond industry’), established in Antwerp, was set up by royal decree of 22 November 1932, in application of the law of 4 August 1930. Under this law, all employees (including those who were not wage-earning) were entitled to child benefit. Employees had to join a special fund that payed child benefit on a monthly basis, according to a progressive rate per child. When this special fund was created, many similar funds already existed e.g. for inland navigation, the wood industry and the cargo industry. The membership of this particular fund increased rapidly; in 1960 it reached 12,371 members. The fund was abolished in 1998. Its rights and duties, the assets of its reserve fund, and its administrative reserve were transferred to the Rijksdienst voor Kinderbijslag voor Werknemers in 1999. (G.
