This collection was accumulated by the administration of the Pomorzany estate. Some records concern economic affairs, others are legal and property-related. Jewish-related elements include inventories listing Pomorzany’s eighteenth-century realty proprietors, leaseholds, the town’s leaseholds, lists of residents of the villages (1st half of the 19th century) and legal cases/litigations involving Jews. The most numerous documents are supplications (requests) to the domain’s authorities/owner for rectification of abuses of the local administration or reduction of lease fees/taxes; receipts (bills, vouchers) and disbursement orders are quite numerous. The surviving contracts concluded by the domain administration with Jews for supplies, leaseholds, including of the entire Estate of Pomorzany and adjacent areas testify to the formation of a group of Jewish entrepreneurs running considerable businesses. Not only Jewish leaseholders but also permanent staff of the Estate appear in the records. Numerous documents bear Hebrew signatures.

- Archival history:
- The archive of the domain of Pomorzany passed from one owner’s hands to the next. This has not prevented the records from surviving in a residual form: only 150 records survive from before the year 1700, most of them from the eighteenth century, out of the original 1,000. The Pruszyński family sorted out the archive, but it was depleted after the death of Józef Pruszyński in 1886. The Potocki family kept the collection in Łańcut and afterwards, before 1939, at the palace in Krzeszowice; the latter was soon after chosen by Governor-General Hans Frank (head of the General-Gouvernement) as his residence. In the course of the agricultural reform carried out in post-war communist-ruled Poland, the archive, considered a ‘former manorial’ property, was taken over by the State in 1949. Initially called ‘the Pomorzany Archive of the Potocki Family’, it has been renamed as it turned out to contain no Potocki-related records.
- Administrative/biographical history:
-
The town and an estate complex of Pomorzany was situated 90 km west of Lwów [now Lviv in Ukraine]. The Pomorzany Estate encompassed in 1789 the town and eighteen villages.
Pomorzany was owned by the families of Sienieński, Cetner (1600–30), Sobieski (1639–1740): the latter included Jakub (died 1646), his son Jan (d. 1696; king of Poland-Lithuania since 1674); Queen consort Maria-Kazimiera Sobieska (Marie-Casimire-Louise de La Grange d'Arquien), the Princes Jakub-Ludwik, Aleksander (1699-1711), Konstanty (1711–1726), and again Jakub (1726–1737), and Maria Karolina de Bouillon, née Sobieska. The subsequent proprietors were Michał-Kazimierz and Karol-Stanisław Radziwiłł (1740–89), and the families Pruszyński (1789–1886) and, lastly, Potocki (1886–1945).
- System of arrangement:
- Once nine fascicles were taken over, the arrangement of the fond was reconstructed at the Archives and categorised into (i) legal and property-related and (ii) economy-related. Archival matter related to Pomorzany has been appended: IT 245, 276, as ADPom 35, 44. The fond has been arranged by possessor: Sienieński (ADPom 1–15); Sobieski (AD Pom 16–53); Radziwiłł (ADPom 54–64, Varia 65–66); Pruszyński (67–71, 72–84). It also includes Records of the Pruszyński-owned estates in Volhynia and Ukraine (ADPom 85–105), family documents (106–113). Extranea – records other than Pomorzany-related (ADPom 114–117, 118–128).
