The collection comprises materials produced by the Department of Youth, operating within the Central Committee of Jews in Poland (CKŻP), in the years 1945-50, as follows:
Organisational dossier (circulars, minutes and records, work schedule, reports, questionnaires, statistical tables, boarding houses and dormitories, correspondence): units 1-50.
Personal files (lists of students and scholarship or grant holders; card file of Youth House residents; individual applications: units 51-60.
Financial dossier: units 61-67.
Publishing materials (Department of Youth Bulletin; Ojfgang periodical; other publications; poetic works by young authors: units 68-91.
Branch offices’ dossier (minutes and records, reports, lists of young people’s names, curricula vitae of boarding house alumni including Janusz Morgenstern): units 92-179.
- Archival history:
- Once the CKŻP was dismantled in 1950, the documentation of its Department of Youth joined the collection of the Jewish Historical Institute (ŻIH). The original volume of the archive and details of initial ordering or rearrangement work and sorting out of the fund are unknown.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Initially named the Youth Care Department, the Department of Youth began operating in November 1945 with the purpose of concentrating young people and helping to arrange their lives. Material, financial, moral, educational and cultural care were also among the department’s priorities, delivered by administration of boarding houses and dormitories, organisation of vocational courses and provision of a system of scholarships and grants for students. The department ceased to exist in 1950.
