- The registers were preserved by the county office for the registration of personal data. They were transferred to the Covasna county directorate of the Romanian National Archives in 2014, where they were made available to researchers.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Registers of vital records were kept since the end of the 17th century by the Roman-Catholic and Calvinist denominations from the area of present-day Covasna county. In 1787 emperor Joseph II extended this obligation to the parishes of each religious denomination. Rabbis were also required to keep such registers, but this obligation was not fulfilled until after 1850. The registers were initially kept in German, Hungarian and Latin, while after 1867, when the Austro-Hungarian administration replaced the Austrian one, Hungarian and Romanian were used in these registrations. In 1895 state registers were introduced, which were kept by the registry offices of the City and Town Halls in towns and cities and by the mayor’s offices of the villages for the inhabitants of all denominations. These registers are still in use today for the registration of births, marriages and deaths.
