- Archival history:
- The fonds was preserved by the Popular Council of Tîrgu Secuiesc and was transferred to the Covasna county directorate of the Romanian National Archives, where it was inventoried and made available to researchers.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The prefecture of Tîrgu Secuiesc was part of Trei Scaune county, established in 1876 in accordance with the law of territorial administration issued by the Hungarian Parliament. After the First World War the Romania administration reorganised the territory of the country by the law issued in 1925 concerning the administrative unification, which instituted Trei Scaune county with five component prefectures, one of which was Tîrgu Secuiesc which included 29 localities. In 1940 the Hungarian administration was reinstalled until 1944 when the Romanian and Soviet armies reestablished the Romanian administration in this area. In 1945 the inter-war system was reintroduced, which lasted until 1950 when a new organisation was introduced following the Soviet model. Tîrgu Secuiesc prefecture became part of the Hungarian autonomous region, before becoming a part of Covasna county in the course of the new administrative organisation of 1968.
