It includes registers and records of the town administration in medieval and modern times, under the Austro-Hungarian regime, in the interwar period and the Communist system. It contains registers of entrance and issue of official documents and correspondence, orders and circular letters of the superior authorities from county and central institutions, electoral lists and registers of presence of foreign citizens. Other thematic sections include judicial records, vital records registers and documents concerning social assistance. The following files include Jewish references: File No. 2202/1871 concerning the congress of the Jews from Hungary and Transylvania; Files No. 291, 292 and 293/1940 concerning nationality registers; File No. 296/1942 about forced labour detachments; File No. 495/1944 about the deportations to Auschwitz.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was preserved by the Popular Council of the town Tîrgu Secuiesc. It was transferred to the Covasna county directorate of the Romanian National Archives where it was inventoried in 1964-1973, being made available to researchers.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The town of Tîrgu Secuiesc received a royal privilege in 1472 including the right to organise weekly fairs. In the 16th-19th century it became an important commercial and handicrafts centre of the region inhabited by the Szeklers. It suffered great damages by arson in 1834. The economic development of the town was seriously affected by the customs war between Austria-Hungary and Romania at the end of the 19th century. Most of the administrative buildings of the town were built in the second half of the 19th century during the Austro-Hungarian administration. From an administrative point of view the town was subordinated to Trei Scaune county. In the interwar period it was organised according to the administrative law adopted by the Romanian parliament, while between 1940 and 1944 the Hungarian administration was restored. After 1945 the Romanian system was reinstalled, while in 1949 the Communist regime introduced its new model of administration.
